China Urges Its Citizens to Avoid Traveling to Japan
15th Nov. 2025
The trouble between China and Japan is growing daily. A new chapter is added, with China advising its citizens against traveling to Japan. The statement came after Japan’s Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi recent comments on Taiwan. She hinted at the possibility of Japan using its self-defense forces, if China attacked Taiwan. As a result, China and Japan renewed theirs tensions after Takaichi’s statement.

On 7 November, Takaichi said in Japan’s parliament that if something happens to the self ruled island that China claims, it might lead to a military reaction from Japan. Tokyo has said that its stance on Taiwan is unchanged, which is only 100 km from the closest Japanese Island. After this statement, China’s embassy in Japan posted online and advised its citizens to avoid traveling to China in near future.
“Recently, Japanese leaders have made blatantly provocative remarks regarding Taiwan. It severely damaged the atmosphere for people-to-people exchanges,” the recent post read. Post further stated that it poses a significant risk to the personal safety and lives of Chinese citizens in Japan. Beijing announced that it had summoned Japan’s ambassador. At the same time, Tokyo stated that it had summoned China’s ambassador following an “inappropriate” online post by the Chinese consul general, Xue Jian.
But later, the post was subsequently deleted. In the social media post that has since been taken down, Xue talked about “cutting off that dirty neck,” which was likely a reference to Takaichi. Since then, Japan’s ruling party has passed a motion saying that the envoy should be told he is not welcome in Japan. Even though the political rivalry between China and Japan is getting worse, Takaichi said that she has no thought of getting her word back.
Additionally, she stated that it was in line with Tokyo’s long standing policy and would not discuss future scenarios. In contrast to the situation, former PMs of Japan tried to avoid direct comment on Taiwan in the past. Instead, they chose to maintain “strategic ambiguity”. The US has also been purposely vague about whether it would send troops to Taiwan to support it for a long time.
