China fireworks factory blast in Hunan kills 26, Xi Jinping orders probe
A blast at a fireworks factory in China’s Hunan province killed 26 people and injured 61 others. The incident took place at Huasheng Fireworks Manufacturing and Display Co. in Liuyang, a major fireworks production hub under Changsha. It happened on Monday at around 4:40 p.m., according to CCTV and Xinhua. Soon after, emergency teams have reached the site and began rescue operations.

Following the incident, Chinese President Xi Jinping has ordered a swift and thorough investigation. He also stressed strict accountability and stronger safety inspections. In addition, he has directed authorities to ensure immediate medical treatment for the injured.
Meanwhile, around 500 firefighters, medical staff, and rescue workers were deployed for the relief efforts. As a precaution, residents from nearby areas of these two black powder warehouses were evacuated. Police has also detained the person in charge of the factory. In the meanwhile central government experts have also joined the investigations.
Safety concerns rise in China as Liuyang blast triggers wider scrutiny
The explosion in Liuyang has once again raised serious safety concerns in China’s fireworks industry. This is because the industry handles large amounts of highly explosive materials. Moreover, Liuyang is one of the country’s main production hubs, which makes safety enforcement a long-standing challenge for the regulators.
As a result, investigators are now focusing on possible safety lapses and operational violations at the site. At the same time, authorities are also reviewing broader compliance and inspection systems across the region. Meanwhile, the factory remains under strict control while forensic teams continue collecting evidence. Officials are working to determine the exact sequence of events that led to the deadly blast.
