Russia Warns UK of “Price” Over Drones Supplied to Ukraine
Russia has accused Britain of “deliberately escalating” the war in Ukraine after reports said British-made drones had been used against military and industrial targets inside Russia. The Russian embassy in London said Britain had become an “accomplice and co-perpetrator” in the reported attacks. It warned that London would face consequences and said the price would rise as Britain becomes more deeply involved in the conflict. The statement followed a Sunday Times investigation reporting that Ukrainian forces had used drones from two British manufacturers in strikes inside Russia for roughly six months.

Britain has shown no sign of changing its position over support for Ukraine. A Ministry of Defense spokesperson said the UK “stands shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine.” Britain has remained one of Ukraine’s strongest supporters since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022. Moscow, meanwhile, views Western military assistance as evidence of deeper involvement in the war. The latest exchange has added another strain to relations between Russia and Britain.
British-Made Drones Strike Refineries and Military Sites Inside Russia
Ukrainian military sources told the Sunday Times that British-made UAVs had struck key facilities inside Russia. The reported targets included oil refineries in Volgograd and Yaroslavl. One drone identified in the report is the Nyan, designed and built by Callen-Lenz, a BAE Systems entity. The Nyan has a 2.9-metre wingspan and can carry a payload of about 20 kilograms. It launches from a pneumatic catapult and has a reported range of roughly 150 miles. These specifications have been reported in connection with the drone used in the strikes.
A second British company has also supplied long-range strike drones to Ukraine, although officials have withheld its name for security reasons. The reported attacks underline Ukraine’s expanding use of long-range unmanned aircraft against targets inside Russia. Russian officials have also reported large-scale drone attacks around Moscow, with casualties and damage in some incidents. The growing use of long-range strikes has raised concerns about further escalation.
Russian Embassy Accuses UK of Escalating War, Warns of Consequences
The Russian embassy has also accused Britain of “hypocritically professing a desire for peace” while supporting Kyiv’s campaign against targets inside Russia. Moscow has long criticised Western arms supplies to Ukraine and has warned that deeper involvement could lead to retaliatory measures. The embassy’s latest statement reflects that broader Russian position as Ukraine expands its long-range drone operations. It has also sharpened the dispute over how far Britain is becoming involved in the conflict.
Britain has pledged 150,000 drones to Ukraine by the end of 2026 as part of a £752 million funding package. It has also shared its Stone Cloak electronic-jamming technology with Ukraine. Russia has long argued that Western arms shipments make NATO countries direct participants in the war. Britain, however, maintains that its assistance supports Ukraine’s defense against Russia’s invasion. With Ukraine continuing long-range attacks inside Russia and Moscow maintaining its own aerial campaign, the dispute over British drone support has added another serious point of tension between the two countries.
