Trump Faces MAGA Backlash Blames Fox News, Warns Democrats With Veto Threat
President Donald Trump spent election night fighting with Fox News as Republican hopes faded. He accused the network of giving Democrats far too much airtime. Late in the evening, he declared that Fox bore responsibility for his party’s losses. However, voters had already delivered a clear verdict. Democrats won control of both the House and the Senate.

Trump wasted little time showing how he plans to handle the new Congress. He shared an image of a red hat carrying a single word: “VETO”. He suggested that repeated vetoes could eventually push Democrats into negotiations. Meanwhile, his allies in conservative media struggled to explain the defeat without blaming him.
Trump Blames Fox News Over Tarlov, Polls and Ratings
The attacks started before the first polls had even closed. Trump said he had switched channels because he could not stand Jessica Tarlov’s voice. He called her “dumb as a rock” on Truth Social. He also texted Greg Gutfeld, who read the message aloud during the live show. Tarlov brushed it off, joking that it sounded like spam and saying he should face reality.
Trump then turned on Fox’s polling, calling its questions a “hit job.” However, the network’s own survey had put his approval rating at a record-low 36 percent. He also claimed Fox’s ratings had dropped 27 percent because it covered Democrats too much. He offered no evidence, while Fox Corp. CEO Lachlan Murdoch has blamed viewer fatigue instead. Anchor Bret Baier added that the night’s results closely matched what Fox’s polls had shown.
MAGA Allies Blame the Iran War, Not Trump, as the Veto Threat Looms
The backlash from Trump’s own side was real, but it was carefully worded. Radio host Buck Sexton blamed mistakes, poor messaging, weak candidates, high prices and a war that fell short of its promises. Notably, he never mentioned Trump by name. Sean Hannity agreed the race would look very different without the Iran war, then defended the decision. Laura Ingraham called the conflict poorly explained and said voters simply do not want war.
Ultimately, Trump’s midterm night showed a president pointing at everyone except himself. He insisted Republicans would have won in a landslide had his name been on the ballot. He also turned on Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who lost to Democrat Gina Hinojosa. Yet even his media allies pointed to the Iran war and high prices as the real problems. With Democrats now holding both chambers, his veto pen may define his dealings with Congress.
