Air Canada Pilot Flew Over 900 Flights on Fake Licence for 17 Years
Air Canada pilot Geoffrey Wall has been accused of flying commercial aircraft for nearly 17 years with a forged pilot licence, according to police. Investigators allege that he served as a captain on more than 900 domestic and international flights between 2009 and 2025. Wall joined Air Canada in 1998 with a valid commercial pilot licence. However, authorities claim he never obtained the required Airline Transport Pilot Licence after his promotion to captain in 2009. Despite that, he allegedly continued operating Boeing 767, 777, and 787 aircraft by using falsified licensing documents.

Investigators also allege that Wall flew tens of thousands of passengers across Canada and international destinations during the period under investigation. Police say he earned nearly 3 million Canadian dollars in salary while working as a captain with the forged credentials. However, officials have not linked the allegations to any aviation accident or in-flight safety incident. Even so, the case has raised significant concerns about pilot licence verification and regulatory oversight within the aviation industry.
Project Icarus Investigation Uncovered the Alleged Licence Fraud
The alleged fraud came to light during a routine regulatory review by Transport Canada after officials identified inconsistencies in pilot licensing records at Pearson Airport. The findings prompted Project Icarus, a major investigation led by Peel Regional Police. Investigators executed search warrants, reviewed extensive records, and carried out forensic examinations of documents to determine how the alleged deception continued undetected for so many years.
Police arrested Geoffrey Wall on June 1 and charged him with seven criminal offences. The charges include fraud over $5,000, uttering forged documents, and possession of counterfeit marks. Authorities have continued examining evidence collected during Project Icarus as the investigation remains active. The case is now before Canadian courts, where the judicial process will determine the next steps.
Air Canada Says Safety Systems Protected Passengers Throughout the Period
Air Canada has maintained that its safety management systems remained effective throughout the period and that passenger safety was never compromised. The airline said it identified licensing irregularities, reported the matter to Transport Canada, and immediately removed the pilot from duty. It also highlighted that every pilot completes mandatory recurrent training, including competency checks every six months and annual flight evaluations conducted by certified check pilots.
The airline has continued cooperating with Transport Canada and Peel Regional Police throughout the investigation. Authorities have expanded Project Icarus through forensic document analysis and have filed criminal charges related to fraud and forged documents. Air Canada has reiterated that valid pilot licensing remains a fundamental requirement for aviation safety and said it will continue supporting regulators and investigators until the legal proceedings conclude.
