Israel Evacuates Tyre After Iran Demands Halt to Strikes

Israel’s military on Tuesday ordered residents of the Lebanese city of Tyre to leave at once for safety. The warning also covered the Christian quarter, which earlier notices had left out. The army said it feared more air strikes and claimed Hezbollah fighters were active in the area. However, it did not give evidence to support that claim. The order widened earlier warnings and put the whole city on alert.

The evacuation came only a day after Iranian officials called on all sides to stop attacks in Lebanon. Israel said Tyre could be hit if Hezbollah fighters stayed in the city. Hezbollah, which is aligned with Iran, said Israel must halt its operations in south Lebanon. It also warned that further incursions could put civilian lives at risk. Thousands have already fled the city in recent months, and aid groups fear the new order could trigger another wave of displacement. For now, the crisis remains tense, and the next move could shape the region’s wider path.

Tehran insists on Lebanon ceasefire

Iran has repeatedly said that any U.S.-brokered deal must include a full halt to Israeli strikes in Lebanon. Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Araghchi said this week that any ceasefire must apply to “all fronts, including in Lebanon.” He added that Iran would not accept a wider peace deal unless the fighting along the Israel-Lebanon border stops. Tehran has also made clear that Israel must withdraw its forces and end attacks on Hezbollah positions.

The issue comes as U.S.-Iran talks over a lasting truce have stalled. Iranian media reported on Monday that Tehran could suspend indirect talks with Washington because of the Lebanon conflict. The U.S. has tried to keep the Lebanon ceasefire separate from the Iran talks, however Iran still sees any Israeli action against Hezbollah as a red line. With Israel continuing operations near its northern border, the dispute has added fresh uncertainty to efforts to prevent a broader regional conflict.
