Trump Deletes Video Containing Racist Imagery of Obamas
A fresh controversy engulfed the White House this week after a racially offensive video was shared from President Donald Trump’s social media account. The post was later removed after the intense bipartisan criticism. This episode has reopened the questions about judgment, oversight, and rhetoric at the highest level of US politics. Consequently. it also reignited the long-standing debates over race and accountability.

The video that was posted to Trump’s Truth Social account was taken down after it was revealed that it contained a racist clip about former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama. It is said that the video portrayed Obamas as “Apes”. The imagery had appeared at the end of a longer video that focused on disputed claims of voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election.
President Trump later told reporters that he had not watched the entire video before it was posted. “I didn’t make a mistake,” he said, adding that he had only seen the opening portion and was unaware of the offensive depiction at the end.
Backlash Against Donald Trump Grows Across Party Lines
Criticism came swiftly and included members of Trump’s own party. Republican Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina called the clip as “the most racist thing he had seen out of this White House”. After viewing the video, he called for its immediate removal. Other Republicans later echoed his remarks. It includes New York Representative Mike Lawler, who described the post as “wrong and incredibly offensive, whether intentional or a mistake”.
Initially, the White House dismissed the reaction by calling it a “fake outrage”. It defended the clip as an “internet meme video”, but the pressure gradually intensified. As a result, the post was deleted, and a White House official said that a staff member had “erroneously” shared it. Even after the removal, condemnation is continued.
Republican Senator John Curtis of Utah said that the video was “blatantly racist and inexcusable”. He argued that it should never have been posted or left online for as long as it was. According to the leading news site, Florida Representative Byron Donalds, who is a Trump ally and currently a gubernatorial candidate, directly contacted the White House. He told them that a staffer has “let the president down”.
Democrats Criticized the Video and Raised Trump’s Account Oversight Questions
Democratic leaders have reacted with sharp criticism. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries called Trump a “vile, unhinged, and malignant bottom feeder”. Simultaneously, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker plainly also said that “Donald Trump is a racist”. California Governor Gavin Newsom’s office described the episode as the “disgusting behavior by the president” and urged Republicans to denounce it. Civil rights leaders also weighed in. Derrick Johnson, who is the president of the NAACP, also called the video “disgusting and utterly despicable”.
He accused Trump of attempting to divert public attention from other political and economic issues. The clip appears to have originated from a post on X that was shared by a conservative meme creator last year. In addition to the Obamas, the video depicts several Democratic figures as animals, which also includes former President Joe Biden. Meanwhile, the Obamas have not publicly commented on the video. While Trump said that the video was removed “as soon as we found out about it”, but the incident has renewed scrutiny of how content is vetted on presidential social media accounts.
