Melinda Gates Speaks on Epstein Files, Bill Gates Link
Billionaire philanthropist Melinda French Gates has said that the renewed attention on Jeffrey Epstein has reopened deeply painful chapters from her marriage. She made the remark after her former husband, Bill Gates, was named in newly released files from the US Department of Justice. Speaking publicly for the first time about the latest disclosures, she described a profound sense of sadness. She also stressed that those named must answer questions themselves.

Her remarks come after the US Department of Justice released more than three million documents related to the late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. It reignited scrutiny of his associations with prominent figures across politics, business, and philanthropy.
Melinda French Gates Addresses Personal Impact due to Epstein Controversy
In an interview with NPR’s Wild Card podcast, Melinda French Gates said that the resurfacing of Epstein-related material was personally difficult. “For me, it’s personally hard whenever those details come up, right? Because it brings back memories of some very, very painful times in my marriage”, she said.
She added that she feels “unbelievable sadness” over the allegations connected to Epstein and the people named in the files. Meanwhile, she did not accuse her former husband of wrongdoing. She further emphasized that unresolved questions belong to those involved with Epstein. “Whatever questions remain there… those questions are for those people and for even my ex-husband. They need to answer to those things, not me”, she said.
Melinda French Gates also reflected on her life after the divorce She stated that, “I am so happy to be away from all the muck”. The couple ended their 27-year marriage in 2021.
Epstein Files and Allegations Against Bill Gates
The Justice Department records included allegations made by Epstein that concern Bill Gates. The record includes a claim that the Microsoft co-founder contracted a sexually transmitted disease. In the meantime, Bill Gates has strongly denied the allegation, calling it baseless.
“These claims – from a proven, disgruntled liar – are absolutely absurd and completely false”, a spokesperson for Bill Gates said. Other news sites have also contacted Gates’s representatives for comment on his former wife’s remarks.
Importantly, Bill Gates has not been accused of criminal wrongdoing by any of Epstein’s victims. Also, his appearance in the documents does not imply illegal activity. His spokesperson further stated that the records demonstrate Epstein’s attempts to damage Gates after he failed to maintain a relationship with him. “The only thing these documents demonstrate is Epstein’s frustration that he did not have an ongoing relationship with Gates and the lengths he would go to entrap and defame,” the spokesperson said.
Emails and Past Associations of Bill Gates with Epstein
Among the documents, there are two emails dated July 18, 2013, which appear to have been drafted by Epstein. However, it remains unclear whether they were ever sent. Both messages were sent from Epstein’s email account back to the same account, and neither is signed. No email address associated with Bill Gates appears in the records.
One email is written as a mock resignation letter from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. It alleges that Epstein had to procure medicine for Bill Gates “to deal with the consequences of sex with Russian girls”. Another email begins with “dear Bill” that makes further claims, including accusations of concealing a sexually transmitted infection from his then-wife, Melinda. Gates has denied all such assertions.
Over the years, Bill Gates has acknowledged meeting Epstein several times, that described them as “several dinners” centered around a potential philanthropic initiative that never materialized. Following the couple’s separation, Gates admitted to having had an affair with a Microsoft employee in 2019.
The newly released files provide a broader picture of Epstein’s extensive network. It includes celebrities, business leaders, and world figures. From which, some of whom maintained contact with him even after his 2008 conviction for soliciting sex from a 14-year-old girl. Epstein died in a New York jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex-trafficking charges.
