Savannah Guthrie Pleads for Missing Mother’s Safe Return
What began as a missing-person alert has escalated into a suspected criminal investigation. The family of NBC Today co-host Savannah Guthrie is seeking public help after her mother, Nancy Guthrie, disappeared from her Arizona home over the weekend. Authorities are saying that the evidence is pointing towards a possible abduction. Meanwhile, reports of a ransom demand have added a sense of urgency to an already fraught search.

Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen late Saturday night at her residence in Tucson. By Monday, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that investigators believe a crime had occurred. As the search widened, Savannah Guthrie and her siblings turned to social media. They urged that anyone who has information, including whoever may be holding their mother, to make contact with the Guthrie family.
Guthrie Family’s Emotional Appeal as Search for Nancy Intensifies
In an Instagram video that was shared on Wednesday, Savannah Guthrie thanked supporters for their prayers before making a direct and deeply personal plea. In a later video, she described her mother as “the heart of our family”. She also stressed that her health is fragile and added that Nancy Guthrie urgently needs a medication to survive.
“Our mom is a kind, faithful, loyal, fiercely loving woman of goodness and light”, Savannah said. While offering a vivid portrait of her as a grandmother, she said, “She has grandchildren that adore her and crowd around her and cover her with kisses”.
She acknowledged about a circulating media report of a possible ransom letter. She said that the family was prepared to communicate but needed proof that their mother was alive. “We are ready to talk”, she said. “We need to know without a doubt that she is alive and that you have her. We want to hear from you, and we are ready to listen”.
Her sister, Annie Guthrie, also addressed the camera through tears. He appealed both to the public and directly to her mother. “We are always going to be merely human, just normal human people who need our mom”, she said. “Momma, if you’re listening, we need you to come home. We miss you”.
Savannah Guthrie later spoke directly to her mother and invoke faith and resilience. “You are God’s precious daughter, Nancy”, she said. “Everyone is looking for you… We will not rest until we are together again”.
Evidence Points to Possible Abduction of Nancy Guthrie
Meanwhile, law enforcement activity around the case has intensified. On Wednesday afternoon, deputies returned to Nancy Guthrie’s home and placed a yellow crime scene tape around the property. K-9 units are also brought to the home. Officials described the visit as just a “conducting follow-up”. They declined to offer extra details.
Sheriff Chris Nanos confirmed earlier this week that investigators “do, in fact, have a crime”. A law enforcement source told the leading news site that blood drops were found leading from the entryway outside the home toward the driveway. They suggested that Nancy Guthrie may have been taken against her will. Investigators also visited the nearby home of Annie Guthrie. However, authorities have not explained the purpose of that visit.
Nancy Guthrie also failed to attend her regular Sunday church service that prompted concern from fellow congregants. Family members went to her home late Sunday morning and called 911 shortly after noon when they could not locate her. Sheriff Nanos said that she had dinner on Saturday evening with her daughter and son-in-law. Later, they only dropped her off and confirmed that she entered the house.
Officials have said that they are treating the case as a possible kidnapping or abduction, while they have not confirmed a ransom demand. In the meantime, the sheriff’s office has acknowledged reports that a written message seeking a “substantial amount” of money was sent to media outlets.
US Federal Government shows support on Nancy Guthrie’s Kidnapping
The case has drawn national attention and generated an unusual level of federal involvement. President Donald Trump said that he spoke with Savannah Guthrie and directed all federal law enforcement agencies to assist local authorities immediately. “We are deploying all resources to get her mother home safely”, he wrote and added that the nation’s prayers were with the family. The White House echoed that message and urged anyone with information to contact emergency services. They expressed hope for Nancy Guthrie’s safe return.
For now, investigators informed that they are pursuing hundreds of leads and examining whether the incident was targeted or random. “We’re going to assume both sides of that”, Sheriff Nanos said. “We’re going to look at both sides”. As the search continues, the Guthrie family has asked the public to remain vigilant and to keep faith while they wait for answers.
